Digital Dose: New classical discs feature music by Haydn, Chopin, and the Mendelssohns

The deep injustice of Fanny Mendelssohn's obscurity is here laid bare. Alongside the piano music of her younger, more famous brother, Mendelssohn's little-known output not only holds up but in some ways emerges as the more worthy and compelling. The sonata, fugues and other assorted pieces here reveal an artist every bit as gifted, creative and well-trained as her sibling, and vital performances by pianist Joanne Polk give them the best possible chance of redemption.
